Gran Train Tour of Switzerland – Classic Jungfrau Special

Itinerary
Interlaken -Jungfraujoch – GoldenPass Linie - Montreux - Zermatt - Glacier Express - St. Moritz – Bernina Express - Lugano – Lucerne

1st day
Rail journey in 2nd class from Zurich Airport via Lucerne to Interlaken. Overnight in Interlaken.

2nd day
After breakfast a highlight of your visit to Switzerland awaits you. Enjoy a journey to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. Overnight in Interlaken.

3rd day
Train ride to Zweisimmen. Change to the GoldenPass Panoramic train (or optional GoldenPass Classic) for this memorable trip to Montreux on the shore of Lake Geneva. You find yourself among alpine forests, bubbling mountain springs and picturesque mountain villages.
Overnight in Montreux.

4th day
Today you board the train to Zermatt, the marvellous and famous car-free alpine resort at the foot
of the majestic Matterhorn. Optional excursion by cogwheel railway up to the Gornergrat where you will have a superb panoramic view of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and other snow-capped peaks rising to above 4000 m/13’000 ft. or experience the peak of sporting adventures in the Matterhorn glacier paradise. At an airy 3883 metres of altitude you will find Europe’s highest aerial cableway and summit station. If you want to go higher, the summit lift brings you up to the viewing platform with a 360° panoramic view. Overnight in Zermatt.

5th day
Today you board the Glacier Express for one of the greatest train journeys in the world. You travel from Zermatt to St.Moritz.
An 8 hour railway journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2’033 metres in altitude. Travel in comfort through the unspoilt natural beauty of a landscape rich in ancient, fragrant mountain forests, peaceful Alpine meadows, rushing mountain streams and mountain valleys, soaked in tradition and centuries-old culture. Optional lunch – if required, please indicate on the booking request. Overnight in St. Moritz.

6th day
Today you travel with the Bernina Express of the Rhaetian Railway along the UNESCO World Heritage route. Enjoy an Alpine switchback ride, taking you from the high, towering glaciers of the mountains down to the swaying palms of Italy: the Bernina Express is the highest railway line across the Alps, linking Northern and Southern Europe – and this in the most spectacular way! Overnight in Lugano.

7th day
Train journey from Lugano to Lucerne. Experience the new Gotthard Base Tunnel – with 57 kilometres it is the longest train tunnel in the world. It takes only 17 minutes to travel this fast flat-track route under the Alpine massif in the heart of Europe. Optional you may book the Gotthard Panorama Express. Rest of the day at leisure in Lucerne.
We recommend the following excursions:
  • Mount Titlis with a visit of the glacier cave and a ride of the Ice Flyer Chairlift
  • Mount Rigi, Queen of the mountains
  • Mount Pilatus, the Golden Round Trip
Overnight in Lucerne.

8th day
Return to Swiss border or airport or continue your stay in Switzerland at your own request.

1st day:
Arrival in Lucerne by train 2nd class from the Swiss border or any Swiss airport. Overnight in Lucerne.

2nd day:
Rail journey over the Brünig Pass to Interlaken by the Luzern-Interlaken Express. On your journey you will pass 3 small lakes before reaching lake Brienz with its very distinctive colour due to its glacial waters. Time at your leasure for an optional excursion up to the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. Overnight in Interlaken.

3rd day:
From Interlaken take the train to Zweisimmen and change to the GoldenPass Panoramic train to Montreux.
You find yourself among alpine forests, bubbling mountain spring and picturesque mountain villages. Overnight in Montreux.

4th day:
Today you board the train to Zermatt, the marvelous and famous car-free alpine resort at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn. Time at your leasure for optional excursions up to the Gronergrat or experience the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. Overnight in Zermatt.

5th day:
From Zermatt you board the Glacier Express and enjoy one of the greatest rail journeys in the world. A 5 ½ hour rail journey takes you across bridges, through tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2033 m to Chur. Return to Swiss border or any Swiss airport.

1st day:
Arrival in Lucerne by train 2nd class from the the Swiss border or any Swiss airport. Overnight in Lucerne.

2nd day:
Rail journey with the Voralpen-Express. Starting from the shores of Lake Lucerne the train takes you past the Mythen mountains and the glorious Rothenthurm moor plateau as it heads to Rapperswil. The train traverses the 99 metre high Sitter viaduct and the rolling landscape of “Toggenburg”. After a little over two hours your reach Eastern Switzerland’s urban centre of St. Gallen whose Abbey district is a UNESCO world heritage site. After reaching St.
Gallen onward journey to Schaffhausen (optional you can also take the boat instead of the train from Stein am Rhein – Schaffhausen). Overnight in Schaffhausen.

3rd day:
Today you visit the Rhine Falls which is the largest waterfall of Switzerland and among the 3 largest waterfalls of Europe. From Schaffhausen it is only 7 minutes train ride to Neuhausen where the Rhine Fall is situated. After the trip to the Rheinfall return journey to Swiss border or any Swiss airport or continue your stay in Switzerland at your own request.

The highest railway station in Europe is located at 3454 m.
Visitors have access to a high alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rock which they can admire from the viewing platforms on the Aletsch Glacier or in the Ice Palace. The railway journey to the Jungfraujoch is an experience that leads through the mountains Eiger and Mönch. From the intermediate stations Eismeer and Eigerwand visitors have stunning views of the impressive Eiger North Face.
