Embedded between nearby Alpine peaks and the hilly terrain of the Jura, the French-speaking city of Geneva lies in the bay where the Rhone leaves Lake Geneva. With its humanitarian tradition and cosmopolitan flair, the European seat of the UNO and headquarters of the Red Cross is known as the «capital of peace».

Geneva, the UN capital of peace, is a city of the world and a balm for the soul. It really doesn't always have to be Paris.

Visit this idyllic city on Lake Geneva, the second largest lake in Europe after Lake Constance. You will enjoy this city break. Of course, the famous Jet d'Eau, the 140 m high water fountain, is the first port of call, but the historic old town and the magnificent views of the mountain ranges and even Mont Blanc are just as stunning. Over 150 nations such as bankers, sheikhs, researchers, diplomats and probably the highest density of Ferraris as well as the home of the luxury watch industry are an exciting mix.

Boat trip

One of the most beautiful experiences in Geneva is a boat trip on one of the old steamers. You can enjoy a unique panorama on the waterway.

Shopping

For shopping fans, the Rue du Rhône is an incredible treasure trove. Fashion, jewellery, watchmaking, the finest chocolate, etc. live up to their reputation. You will only find so much luxury and luxury brands here.

Be sure to buy a longeloe (pork and fennel sausage), a traditional Geneva sausage that is eaten with potatoes. A typical souvenir from your city trip.

You can't avoid the top Swiss chocolate Favager in Geneva. As you stroll through the alleyways, the aroma of these delicacies will fill your nostrils. Whether classic bars, pralines, spreads or even to drink - there is guaranteed to be something for you.

Mont Blanc

You should definitely plan a detour to the French side on your city break. Chamonix is a charming little mountain village located at the foot of Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe. The cable car takes you comfortably up to the 3842 metre-high Aiguille du Midi, the highest point in Europe ever reached by cable car. An unforgettable journey into the eternal snow.

Tip

Mountain adventure station on Mont Salève - with a fantastic view of the lake, the Jet d'Eau, the city and, on a clear day, as far as Mont Blanc. A nature & hiking paradise. The station offers a climbing wall with a height of 20 metres, a museum, a botanical sensory garden and a 360º panoramic restaurant.

The "Portail de la science " is an iconic project for the European Centre for Nuclear Research CERN (design: Renzo Piano Building Workshop /IT). Five coordinated buildings will house impressive, interactive exhibitions, learning laboratories covering over 250 square metres, a large auditorium, a restaurant, etc. Exciting shows take guests on a journey back to the dawn of time.

In the Malbuisson passage, you can admire the carillon of the famous Malbuisson clock every hour on the hour. To the music of the 16 bells, 42 bronze figures move along a track, which was created by clockmaker Edaurd Wirth.
