Zermatt – By train to the Gornergrat

Zermatt – By train to the Gornergrat
When staying in Zermatt, a trip to the Gornergrat is a must.

Since 1898 the Gornergrat Bahn, Switzerland's first cogwheel railway, has been transporting visitors from the 5,200 ft resort all the way up to 10,200 ft where the peaks begin. The direct trip can be done all year. The jaw-dropping route up the mountains is dotted with bridges and tunnels, forests and alpine meadows, gorges, lakes and waterfalls. During the journey, the silhouettes of giant mountains gradually take shape and majestically await you at the finish: the Matterhorn and its accompanying snow-capped peaks standing tall over 13,000 ft high.
