Lucerne is the perfect city with an impressive combination of water, mountains and city and with its home mountain, Mount Pilatus behind it. But of course that is not all. An excursion to Mount Pilatus or to Mount Rigi, the queen of the mountains or to Mount Titlis should not be missed.

Interlaken is the gateway to the three mighty mountains: Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and nestled between lake Thun and lake Brienz. Another highlight awaits you! Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe, surrounded by glaciers and a viewing platform with a breathtaking panorama.

Travel details

1st day: Arrival in Lucerne
Arrival in Lucerne by train 2nd class from the Swiss border or airport. A stunning setting, world-famous sights, exciting modern architecture, renowned museums and much more make Lucerne a thrilling city to visit. Overnight in Lucerne.

2nd day: Lucerne
Day at leisure. We recommend an excursion to the following mountain tops: Mount Pilatus the Golden Round Trip, Mount Rigi Queen of the mountains or Mount Titlis. Overnight in Lucerne.

3rd day: Lucerne to Interlaken (2h)
Rail journey over the Brünig Pass to Interlaken situated between the Lakes of Thun and Brienz. Overnight in Interlaken.

4th day: Interlaken to Jungfraujoch (4h)
Excursion to the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe. The Jungfrau Railway takes you up to the Jungfraujoch - at 3454 m the highest railway station in Europe. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps. Overnight in Interlaken.

5th day: Interlaken to Zermatt (2h30)
Rail journey through the wonderful Bernese Oberland to the Valais, either via the Lötschberg base tunnel directly to Visp and further to Zermatt. Or by the RegioExpress Lötschberger – the train with big windows using the traditional scenic Lötschberg line to Brig and continue your journey to Zermatt, the famous resort at the foot of the Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt.

6th day: Zermatt to Gornergrat (1h20)
The popular Gornergrat Bahn, Europe’s highest cogwheel railway, takes you up to the Gornergrat. On the Gornergrat viewing platform you are surrounded by 29 peaks rising to above 4000 m. Overnight in Zermatt.

7th day: Zermatt to St. Moritz (8h)
Board the Glacier Express and enjoy one of the greatest rail journeys in the world. An 8 hour rail journey takes you across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2033 m to St. Moritz. Overnight in St. Moritz.

8th day: Departure from St. Moritz
Return to Swiss border or airport or individual onward journey.

This tour can also be booked in the opposite direction.

On the way to Lucerne we recommend a stop at Arth-Goldau. There you take the cogwheel railway up to Mount Rigi. Or you take the boat from Lucerne to Weggis and board the aerial cableway. The «Queen of the Mountains» offers 100 kilometers of hiking trails with a stunning panorama. On Europe's first cogwheel train you will get back to Vitznau where you can take a boat back to Lucerne. » When: according to timetable. Duration: half day.

Enjoy a boat trip on lake Lucerne and a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. In Alpnachstad you will board the steepest cogwheel railway in the world to reach the summit. From there the world's first revolving cable car Titlis Rotair takes you up to Mount Titlis. The train crosses impressive bridges and travels through countless galleries and tunnels up to the 3135 m high Gornergrat.
